Homophones can be difficult for English Language Learners (ELLs) because they are words that are pronounced alike but differ in meaning, derivation, or spelling.  The words to, two, and too are examples of homophones in English.
Students collect examples of homophones that they discover through reading various texts or simply listening to spoken language.  Once students have identified a pair of homphones in English, they record the following information on their Homphone Log: a short definition or picture to represent the meaning of each homophone and two sentences that use each homophone correctly.  Click on the link below to see a list of the homophones students have collected on their Homophone Log so far this year.
