Homophones can be difficult for English Language Learners (ELLs) because they are words that are pronounced
alike but differ in meaning, derivation, or spelling. The words to, two, and too are examples
of homophones in English.
Students collect examples of homophones that they discover through reading various texts or simply listening to spoken
language. Once students have identified a pair of homphones in English, they record the following information on
their Homphone Log: a short definition or picture to represent the meaning of each homophone and two sentences
